Former Victoria Transport Matters Party MP Rod Barton says there is “no point” in the state’s new taxi laws requiring meters to be turned on at all times if the regulator is not “enforcing the rules”.
There are calls for a new review into the taxi industries in Victoria and NSW as drivers adjust to these new rules across Melbourne.
“You’ll be surprised at the amount of people that are contacting us and saying this law isn’t being adhered to,” Mr Barton told Sky News Australia.
“I think the problem is that the government thinks that they have made this rule and that everybody is going to stick to it.
“Unless the regulator enforces this, it’s not going to happen.”
